3M defective earplugs lawsuit
3M Combat Arms earplugs are dual-ended earplugs that promise to allow service members to hear orders, information, and normal conversation while also blocking out dangerous loud noises. Thousands of members of the armed forces relied on the black and yellow earplugs to protect their hearing when working around aircraft, during artillery fire, or when other loud noises might occur.
However, according to the lawsuits filed against 3M Company, the earplugs failed to seal tightly and did not include instructions for proper use. The veterans who are pursuing compensation from 3M allege the company knew their Combat Arms earplugs would not protect soldiers from hearing damage as early as 2000, but they continued to market the product anyway. The lawsuits claim this is what led to:
- Hearing loss
- Tinnitus
- Difficulty with balance
- Other issues caused by exposure to loud noises or repetitive noises
